Garden State Flower Cooperative, a growing regional agricultural cooperative based in Boonton, NJ, seeks 2 positions, an Operations Manager and a Market Assistant for the 2026 season. The ideal candidates should have experience in a high sales volume job and be able to multi-task and work independently. Knowledge of the floral industry and strong customer service and social media skills are highly desired. Both positions are independent contractor positions that require organizational abilities and a willingness to take initiative.
The Operations Manager position is approximately 25-30 hours per week during the season, April through October, and a November Pop-Up Market. The job responsibilities include managing the weekly flower markets (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday), sorting pre-orders and coordinating deliveries, managing the market assistant, and performing a variety of tasks at home. These include maintaining the GSFC social media presence, updating the website, and communicating with growers and buyers. Additionally, the Operations Manager position requires 25-30 hours of work off season during the winter. The Operations Manager reports to the GSFC Board. Compensation: $25/hour

The Market Assistant position is approximately 15 hours per week during the season, April through October, including a November Pop-Up Market. The job responsibilities include assisting the Operations Manager with tasks during the weekly flower markets, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. These include lifting and moving 40 lb. flower buckets, and assisting with social media as needed. The Market Assistant reports to the Operations Manager and the GSFC Board. Compensation: Starting at $18/hour

Operations Manager - 30 hours/week
Management duties
Manage the Market Assistant
Competent with Rooted, the online sales platform and Point of Sale system; training is provided
Prepare a weekly market report (sales recap) for growers
Generate End-of-Year Report: market sales and grower participation
Attend Board meetings (one per month) and Grower Member meetings (two per year) and present an Operations Manager report at each meeting
Process all buyer inquiries, applications and fees
Manage email account and communicate with buyers and growers as needed:
Product discrepancies
Market operations
Questions and concerns
Last minute requests
Recruit new buyers
Promote DIY events
Promote workshops and events
Market the GSFC
Serve as liaison between grower members and florists
Become familiar with each grower member’s offerings
Stay aware of large events that florists will have during the season
Be able to ask growers about unlisted product to fulfil florists requests or push excess product that growers may have
Coordinate with delivery driver
Know the stops
Share buyers’ specific requests, if any, with driver
Communications
Competent with email, Google Sheets/Docs, Mailchimp, Squarespace, Canva
Manage Co-op’s Instagram account; keep it up-to-date and respond to messages and comments
Follow social media posting calendar set by Board
Manage spreadsheets (Google Sheets/Excel) for advanced pre-orders
Manage and update Co-op’s website
On-site market duties- Assistant to help with these tasks
Check in, set up and organize the pre-orders in cooler and cool room so they can be located easily
Set up market floor (MF) **must be able to lift 40 lbs flower buckets repeatedly**
Quality control - remove unacceptable flowers from pre-orders and substitute with better product if possible; notify growers of product substitutions/replacement
Pricing control - ensure pricing is consistent with quality of flowers
Retrieve pre-orders for designers
Meet and greet designers and help with shopping and orders
Process pre-orders and MF Point of Sale transactions on Rooted
Help designers transfer product from GSFC buckets to theirs and load into their vehicles
Organize and retrieve delivery orders for driver and work with him to load deliveries in proper order
Manage grower volunteer
Consolidate leftover floral product and either return to cooler/cool room or coordinate donation pick up. Remove grower sleeves from MF flowers prior to donation pick up
Fill, empty, clean, move and organize buckets. Prep space for future markets
Clean tables, sweep/mop floor and lock up market space at the end of market
Competent with Canva, Instagram and other social media sites.
Market Assistant - 15 hours/week
